Klodjan Braho was selected this month as the new head of the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organised Crime – a body with the tough task of investigating high-level graft – at a moment when the institution is the focus of intense public attention and political pressure.
The Special Prosecution, known to Albanians as SPAK, was established to tackle corruption and organised crime amid a major justice reform process. Backed by the US and EU, it has gained a solid reputation for investigating senior officials and politicians, and a lot of public support in Albania.
Asked by BIRN what will his main priorities be during his mandate as head of SPAK, 43-year-old Braho said that he plans “to ensure that no one is above the law, and everyone is equal before it”.
