Internal documents from a Chinese AI company indicated that China has been using the technology to intervene in foreign elections, including propaganda targeting Taiwan’s local elections next year and presidential elections in 2028

Oh… I assumed virtually everyone with any power is using AI now to try and manipulate public opinion.
It’d be silly and naive to think otherwise.
So, like US???
Using multiple accounts to circumvent bans or violate policies.
I’d be surprised if they didn’t.
Omg just like the US
As long as social media goes unchecked and unregulated, we are collectively well cooked.
Yeah and rain is wet, groundbreaking stuff…
propaganda and election are cheaper than war, who wouldve guessed that! /s
Considering how (relatively) cheap it is to build an AI compared to traditional propaganda you should assume EVERYONE is using it at all times. And it’s only ever going to get worse.
Until we punish these states for their interference, it’ll get worse.
It also becomes harder to punish each successful interference since their selected candidates who succeeded will never retaliate
Ach, hem…..looking at you orange turd
Nothing new here?
USA does the same in Europe and South America and Russia does the same with a Bot-Army in Europe, SK, Japan and Georgia.
> The fictional characters not only unilaterally spread disinformation, but could also engage in online discussions with their target audience to influence them, it said.
> A person working in Taiwan’s AI industry told the newspaper that given the advancement in AI, it is nearly impossible to identify AI-generated characters on social media.
Russia’s been doing it in America for a decade, and it worked- Putin has our NS, and look at where we stand with our long time allies, NATO… MMW unless Trump is impeached, our military will soon be taking orders from Moscow.
Not really surprising.
China does have bots posting pro-China content all the time. I remember seeing a video that mentioned the Uyghurs for like one second, and the comment section had a lot of denialism of China’s horrible treatment of the ethnic group, and some were repeating similar phrases to each other and were structured similarly.
Very suspicious.
Least surprising thing I ever read.
So if the pro-unification KMT wins, we should be skeptical?
Any surprise?
So glad to see that this hasn’t been mistook as only china if so may be doing this…
We all know all the powers in the world are doing this to each other in what is going to be a zero sum game with a whole planet of consequence!
I’ll let you into a bit of a secret, everyone is doing it, and it’s not just election interference, it’s to make day to day running of governments more difficult by stirring up the populations as much as possible.
