HILTON HEAD, S.C. (WTOC) – For nearly 16 years, Delisheeyo on Hilton Head Island has been serving frozen yogurt to its customers.

That was almost taken away when someone ran through their business, and then just hours later, an unexpected electrical fire destroyed the owner’s house.

Now the community is swooping in to help.

Both events happened within a span of eight hours on Sunday.,

Just after two in the morning, a 20-year-old was leaving the shopping center parking lot, and according to the owner wanted to show off, which turned into him darting into the yogurt shop.

The shop closed for a day while crews worked on some necessary repairs, but on Tuesday it reopened for two days before closing for the Christmas holiday.

Delisheeyo will reopen on Saturday.

There is still some work left to be done, but the owner says it will stay open during the repairs.

While the family was tending to the scene, they found out that an electrical issue caught their home on fire, destroying everything.

Inside the home were two pets, which luckily were rescued by someone.

“He just, without thinking or asking, ran around the back of the house to check,” Owner of Delisheeyo, Blake Wearren, said. “I just so happened to leave my 12-foot painting ladder literally standing up and ready to go. He saw the dogs and climbed up, and they were pretty much unscathed.”

As the home was burning, Blake Wearren says their friends and family were already helping them out.

Whether it was collecting donations, setting the family up with housing, buying Christmas presents for Wearren’s baby, or just being there as a shoulder to cry on.

“We haven’t been able to stress about a thing for more than a minute,” Wearren said. “I mean, our needs are being met quicker than we know what we need.”

Wearren says that the support from the community has been amazing and his family has been set up with food, clothes, and a short-term rental to stay in while they navigate the next steps.
