Hello,

Recently, she persuaded me to take a look "Wolf’s palate". Anyway, for a long time I was a big skeptic of Lithuanian series. I think that there is no need to explain much why. In general, I’m the kind of person who hardly watches TV, but since I trust my wife’s opinion, I decided to take a chance.

Since, as far as I’ve seen, no one here has discussed it too much, I wanted to share my insights and check how you fellow citizens rate it, if you’ve already seen it. At the same time, I created a video review with and without plot revelations. I am very "fresh" in that whole matter, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on both the series itself and my efforts. I tried to be as objective as possible, well, maybe with the exception of Ingeborg Dapkūnaite. For some reason I feel some kind of inexplicable hatred for her 😀 But seriously, I think I made a balanced review. If you liked it, it would be nice to get your opinion after the video.

Maybe I’ll start with the good stuff, because the series definitely had them, and those things usually get very little attention or praise in movies. So what caught my eye/ear?

First of all filming. It can be seen that technologies are already becoming much easier to accept for our small country, which is very positive when looking into the future. "In the palate of the wolf" it unfolds perfectly. Visually, we are not inferior to evenings. Also – the soundtrack, especially where there was dark atmospheric music to create tension. It worked very well. Of course, those who saw it may have noticed that sometimes such pop pieces were thrown into the fence or the stake for dramatic scenes. Those were very off topic.

I am also happy that foreigners are coming to our productions more and more often (an analogous reddit in Lithuanian would probably stone me for this statement :D). I think it’s good for attracting international attention to our cinema kitchen. Especially since they performed really well in the series. The characters portrayed by them were probably the most interesting to me (here, of course, it’s a bit of a pity for the Lithuanians, but it’s not the fault of the actors, but rather the writing of the series).

In general, I can say that I expected much worse and really had a rather big prejudice, but in many places the series exceeded expectations and pleasantly surprised me. Of course, there were a lot of places that just defied logic and were complete cringe. The acting varied a lot – there were a lot of different performances, from tragic to, I would say, surprisingly good, as actors who came from cheap tabloid Lithuanian productions. Overall, it was watchable, there were some interesting characters and plot twists, but the writing was very weak. He made the whole movie very bitter for me. Knowing that there were quite a few euros invested in it, I’d say it could have been really better.

BET!!!

I think it is very superficial to write him off completely. Late Night is not and never will be Tarantino or Guy Ritchie and that’s OK. He, I think, understands very well himself the audience for which he creates media. Such serials are a positive in any case. If Vilko Gomurys pays off (after all, EUR 4 million is not a dog’s poop), then maybe more Lithuanian developers will get more funding for their projects in the future.

In any case, it is not easy to make cinema in Lithuania, let alone a good one. But it really exists and we can be happy about it!

What do you think? Liked/disliked? Who were your favorite characters?

  2. Net nenoriu žiūrėti, nes bijau to ką pamatysiu. Man Vėlyvis yra “Matvaju” ir “Zero”, vien Netflixo stiliaus traileris atbaido.
