Jersey’s authorities have formally asked Portugal to remove the island from the country’s list of tax havens, according to information released under a Freedom of Information request.
Portugal currently lists Jersey as a jurisdiction with a “privileged tax regime” under its domestic tax rules.
The FOI response confirms the States’ request followed a visit to Jersey by the Portuguese Ambassador in June, during which he agreed to raise the issue with the relevant authorities in Lisbon.
Deputy Ian Gorst, Minister for External Relations, said he had submitted a formal written request to the Portuguese ambassador, His Excellency Nuno Brito, asking for Jersey’s removal from the list.
