Only real change will happen if enough voterst get off their butt this time and get to the polls.

  2. Soft-Community5978 on

Is it though? I feel like in the end they are going to elect a democrat by a little margin and everything is going to happen again, nothing the democrats do is good enough anything the republicans do can be forgiven.

  3. I’m this thread, defeatist BS meant to urge the disenfranchisement of people who care.

The wake of Trump’s devastating presidency is by far the best time to enact real change. People are pissed and every measure of that is showing that the cult is a minority.

Vote in primaries. Make the changes we need happen… And if/when the elections show themselves to be tampered with, be prepared to take action.

Government only functions with the consent of the governed. Saying it’s too late is just giving in.

  4. The fact they fell asleep at the wheel tells us everything we need do know. Liberals are only pro womens rifts, pro lgbt, anti war, anti Epstein, pro Gaza, pro Medicare for All when on social media so they get upvotes.

They don’t show up with any consistency when it comes to actually voting. They don’t care. This mess is 100% on the voter. The youth of America loves Trump. They love this chaos.

  5. The functional literacy rate in the U.S. is so low that a real reckoning is unlikely…many people wouldn’t even recognize what it means.

  6. Lol. A recession/depression needs to happen before this thing gets more swing statey.

On top of that, Dems will need to fix the housing problem on their watch for there to be a full fledged flip

What are the waking up from? Trump is just the final symptom of a history of violence and anti-intellectualism that began with the very first settlers.

Idk man. Nearly everyone I know now has turned pretty far right (and I live in California, San Francisco).

Maybe it’s different in the rest of the country.

  9. Which is why there won’t be an election come November. Some attack or “concern” or something specifically orchestrated to give them a reason not to have an election.

  10. I too hope the US fixes its horribly broken system, but I fear that the best we can hope for is a democratic victory that once again leads to nothing changing and then Trump 2.0 will emerge.

Reich is correct that Trump is a symptom and not a cause.

We absolutely should still vote and organize and donate for the midterm and the eventual general election, which are both scheduled to happen. I’m not saying give up at all.

It’s naive ignorance, *dangerous* ignorance, to assume it will happen and be ok. This clique of Nazi scum has accumulated an awful lot of criminal and moral liability to ever realistically consider allowing a peaceful transfer of power to threaten them. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. ✌️

  12. ‘A democracy cannot thrive where power remains unchecked and justice is reserved for a select few. Ignoring these cries and failing to respond to this movement is simply not an option — for peace cannot exist where justice is not served.”
    — Lewis on the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act

  13. When will Americans learn. These headlines and talking heads are so delusional. No one is “waking up”.

  14. I want to believe this, but sadly history has shown that this is simply not going to happen, the average voter is a moron and cannot grasp even the concept of a bigger picture, a bigger world beyond just themselves in tha immediate, singular, moment.

Until Americans en masse are able to actually understand how this world, their day to day lives, the lives of others, all major economies worldwide, are all interconnected and depend on one another, we will never change.

  15. The big difference between now and when MLK was able to show the atrocities on the nightly news, is that the right wing controls over 50% of the broadcast licences.

Trump is trying to take away the FCC license of any news organization that disagrees with him.

  16. If all the fucking doomers in this thread got together and used their collective effort…

…they wouldn’t get anything useful done but at least they would stop shitting up the internet for a little while.

  17. They ARE the minority they are just so loud and they have money creating the effect they are a majority. THEY ARE NOT

  18. Trump has smashed the world order. The USA no longer has allies, half of the world is on the brink of war and we are charging full steam ahead towards global hyper warming. The Democrats will do little to nothing to change any of that, they will as usual focus on pandering to their lobbyists and the kleptocracy.

A sea change in politics is needed. A leader unlike any we have seen before. But Americans will always vote for the guy who promises them lower taxes and other pipe dreams.

  19. this sub constantly:
    – MAGA IS MELTING DOWN

    – IS THIS THE END OF TRUMP?

    – AMERICANS ARE WAKING UP

    reality:

    nothing happens

  20. BigDaddyCoolDeisel on

Someday MAGA will realize that every influencer, podcaster, Fox News talking head, cool bro sports personality, wacky YouTube personality, ‘pro-America’ country musician or rock star, and every ‘remember when…’ comedian all incredibly end with “and that’s why the rich should have ALL the money.”

    What a remarkable coincidence.

  21. I just sifted through the top 100 posts on the conservative sub again and there is not one mention of the Epstein files, as usual.

  22. They’re waking up huh? No, they’ve always known what has been going on for decades, they just choose to play dumb.

  23. In a world where right wing apologists control a substantial proportion of broadcast media and all of us have “choose your own adventure” options for content, there isn’t enough shared reality for this “awakening” to stick.

Change will only happen when a critical mass of people feel real pain. That usually happens with economic collapse or war. I am not hopeful that enough of us will see the light to reverse this trend anytime soon. I’d love to be disappointed.

A lot of people will be understandably cynical about this article, especially if they only read the headline.

But Reich nails the economic diagnosis here. It’s been happening for 50 years, Trump has just made it blatant enough that even us plebs can understand the grift.

It’s needlessly partisan. Even though Republicans are the ones DOING it, Democrats have effectively enabled the system to persist.

He also doesn’t address, IMO, the actual problem. Which is the fact that Putin has figured out how to run an incredibly effective online psyop that we still have no meaningful methods to combat. There will be no “great reckoning” until we can effectively communicate truth again.

  25. Bellatrix_Shimmers on

Always darkest before the dawn. Hopefully the one good thing is we will see how many institutions are near completely broken and corrupt. Then we can start to create a better system.

  26. DreadPirate777 on

The change that needs to happen is people walking away from the republican party. Current republicans need to call their house and senate representatives and let them know that what is going on is not ok. Until we get to that point it’s always going to be wins by razor thin margins at elections. Elections are the end goal of a race that started when Trump was elected.
