Is Greenland scaled by its own latitude, or by the latitude of its country, Denmark? Which scale is Denmark scaled to? Same question with alaska/ the US

Just take a globe.

It still bothers me a bit that the relative size still uses Mercator shapes.

This is why the Mercator projection needs to die.
(As the default way of depicting the world to the public, that is).

I really hate this map because it still has the distorted proportions of each individual country, Canada might be technically the correct area, but its US border is smaller than that same border on the US side, the distance from Vancouver to the eastern tip of Labrador is shorter than the distance from the coast of Washington to the coast of Maine.

dear friends, why don’t you just use a globe. Zoom out in google maps, no need for weird animations and dick measuring contests

There’s going to be a day when someone tries to claim Antarctica.

This type of graphics showcase why earth surface is almost 75% water, because the Mercator projection really doesn’t show that

I love it when what is shown on a video or a gif is too short for you to really take a look at it and also you can’t pause it.
