The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH) has adopted a decision to legalize cannabis for medical purposes.

This information was published on Facebook by Saša Magazinović, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the BiH Parliament, stating that it is the result of years of struggle, perseverance and facing numerous obstructions.

Magazinović recalled the first public debates and conferences in the BiH Parliament, during which citizens testified about the positive effects of cannabis oil in treating serious illnesses, emphasizing that it was precisely these cries of people in need that were the main motivation for continuing the fight.

“The most important step has been taken, but the work is not finished. Now comes the fight for the details, because the devil is always in them. However, from today on it is much easier,” Magazinović wrote.

He expressed special gratitude to Irfan Ribić, a student at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Sarajevo, who claimed to have cured multiple sclerosis with cannabis oil, stating that he was the one who motivated him to actively engage in this initiative.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH, Dubravka Bošnjak, who he said had found a way to overcome institutional blockages and submit the draft decision for adoption.

The adoption of this decision paves the way for regulating the use of cannabis for medical purposes, which could provide patients in Bosnia and Herzegovina with legal and controlled therapy, which has so far been available exclusively through the gray market or abroad.
