The Fundão Volunteer Firefighters’ Humanitarian Association will build a new fire station at a base cost of €4.2 million, confirmed president Carlos Jerónimo, citing outdated facilities that no longer meet operational and safety demands for a service of 70 vehicles, 55 staff and 150 firefighters.

He added that the lack of space hinders parking, training and equipment storage, undermining response times.

According to AHBVF, about 40 percent of funding is secured, including €1.3 million in municipal support, within the framework of the application submitted by the Intermunicipal Community of Beiras and Serra da Estrela.
