North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has visited a munitions factory producing multiple rocket launchers.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Tuesday, Kim conducted an on-site inspection of a major munitions industry facility on Sunday to review the production of multiple rocket launchers set to be deployed to key units of the North Korean military.
Kim reportedly said that the multiple rocket system, which will be the North’s “main strike means,” would completely transform the composition of its artillery force, adding that the factory plays a pivotal role in implementing the party’s military strategy to modernize and expand long-range artillery capabilities.
Referring to the weapons system, Kim said it can annihilate the enemy through sudden precise strike with high accuracy and devastating power and can also be used as a “strategic” attack means, calling it a “super-powerful” weapon system.
The reference to “strategic” weapons suggests that they could have nuclear capabilities.
Kim further called on the munitions industry sector to actively push forward the establishment of an advanced industrial structure, continuous expansion of production capacity, and innovative technological upgrades to meet military modernization goals and demands.
