Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani said today that she plans a second term in office, waiting for the formation of new institutions and talks about support for her candidacy.

Osmani told Radio Free Europe that she “intends to continue her political engagement if she is not elected president.”

“I will talk to all Albanian parties. We will have to sit down, discuss and see if they want to hear the will of the citizens, which is clear. The vast majority of polls show that around 81 percent of citizens want my second mandate. We will see if the MPs want that will to materialize. If the MPs do not want it and do not have the will, I will continue my political engagement,” Osmani said.

She announced “good news early next year,” stating that she and her team “have done a great job with countries that wanted to freeze relations with Kosovo.”

“Serbia claimed to have convinced more than 20 states to withdraw their recognition of Kosovo. These states actually made statements in the presence of Serbia. There were cases when they sent letters to the United Nations, there were cases when they sent letters to us and notifications to our allies to freeze the recognition process until the dialogue was completed. I worked to get every one of them back, except for one state – I reconfirmed the recognition with each of them in meetings with their leaders. It was like new recognitions,” Osmani said.

The President of Kosovo is elected indirectly, in the Assembly of Kosovo, by a two-thirds majority of deputies.

If no candidate receives a two-thirds majority, the candidate who wins a simple majority is elected in the third round of voting.

The vote for the president in the parliament there must be held no later than one month before the end of the current president’s term.
