  1. Translation: government is attempting to bribe voters with some greenwashed helicopter money.

The issue with this as an attempt to win back Green voters is that they’re gaining voters on the economy not on the environment.

The discourse I’ve seen firmly puts the environment on the back burner lamenting “eco-Tories” in the party.

I’ve even seen supposed Green Party supporters advocating to deregulate to make development easier which seems quite a departure from what the party was originally about.

Could get pretty close to zero bills if the government actually switched over the solar panels on millions of homes to the people who live in them.

Millions live in council housing they spent billions on installing new heating systems ans panels but they can’t use it since the council redirects all power to the grid. Saving people a total of 0 for the last 10 years. They can do this via an app in 2 seconds. Millions of people could have a self sustaining power source switched on right now. But the government would rather keep selling your power to utility companies. All those houses you see with pans on the roofs, less than 1% of those homes actually have access to the “green” power.

Does anyone really believe this cobblers ?
**The question is what do they take us for if they think we might believe it ?**
I seem to remember Labour getting voted in saying power bills would drop, but they have actually gone up.

Whilst it is true to say renewables are cheap that’s only if one does not count the cost of the back up necessary because renewables are not generating all the time. Once that cost factored in they are anything but cheap (and I am not anti renewables, we have solar panels on our house).

PS where are those Billions coming from when the country is bust ?

  5. Loving Ed Miliband, he’s been really knocking it out of the park. Its weirdly gone underreported just how much Labour are throwing themselves behind the environment.

Approvals for renewable projects have surged 200% quarter to quarter since Labour came to office.

  6. > As part of this push for decarbonised homes, ministers are expected to lift restrictions on so-called “plug-in solar panels”, allowing more to be installed on flats, patios and balconies.

This is very good news, these plugin systems are really simple to DIY install. If combined with a decent battery you can save an awful lot of money on electricity.

  7. Ed’s nonsense announcements haven’t worked so far. Why would anyone trust the guy who doesn’t understand that higher taxes on energy bills increases energy bills?

One of the cornerstones of the GBeebies’ bile…

They’re not winning back anyone with that..

I think people are getting really fed up with this net zero and “green “ initiatives that they are asking us to get on board with. This always results in higher prices for the consumer, and even worse, this virtue signalling is pointless unless the biggest polluters sign up to it,which they won’t!

  10. Perhaps they’d like to make sure the new super-efficient homes are built by craftsmen doing the job properly, rather than the current big housebuilders using blokes they found walking the streets or down by the shore because they can pay them less!

  11. They should only lightly touch “zero” and “green”, they should definitely still aim for those goals as a government should do the best for the country long term.

But reading the room they should be absolutely hammering a “build build build” projection with the public. At an almost war- like energy

  12. Hope it’s better than the new houses that have a single token solar panel on the roof. Huge waste of time. Why don’t the planning permission require them to do the whole roof?

No bills to pay, but the new tax that was brought in to recoup the billions government has spent on this policy.

The tax will equal the same has someone paying a mortgage and bills. Probably a few £s less.

This way, the government cuts out the middle man (mortgage, electric, water companies) and claim it all for themselves to prop up the welfare bill and help to plug the gap in funding for illegals.

My very far fetched take on this.
