Lithuania plans to mine bridges near the border with Russia and Belarus as part of preparations for the defense of the Baltic region.

This is reported by LRT.

According to the Lithuanian military, engineering structures are already being installed on border bridges that allow explosives to be quickly attached in the event of a threat. Such measures are part of a set of border strengthening solutions that the countries of the region agreed on back in July last year.

The military explained that bridges and roads are chosen taking into account natural obstacles and strategic importance for the country’s defense. At the same time, several dozen special facilities have been created along the border to store anti-tank and other defensive barriers.

In addition, the Lithuanian Armed Forces are planting trees to protect key communication routes and deepening irrigation ditches. If necessary, these ditches will serve as trenches and additional anti-tank barriers.

The military noted that in the event of an armed conflict, bridges near the border could be blown up to complicate or completely block the movement of enemy forces.

It was previously reported that Lithuania plans to launch its own assembly and maintenance of the latest version of the Leopard 2 A8 battle tanks.

As a reminder, the Lithuanian government has declared a state of emergency throughout the country due to the massive use of balloons for smuggling from Belarus.
