It is a grim end to 2025 as another avalanche claims the lives of skiers and hikers. It follows two deaths in France, four in Greece and a spate of other incidents.
The latest avalanche happened in the resort of Panticosa in the Spanish Pyrenees.
A woman in the same group is being treated for hypothermia.
It is reported that a large ice sheet broke off at about 2,200m and triggered the slide.
Two other people in the group escaped relatively unscathed following the incident on Monday.
The three deceased were expert mountaineers, well-known in the area and with knowledge of meteorology, and the authorities have attributed what happened to “bad luck”.
In a separate incident in Spain another woman was injured after being hit by an avalanche while mountain skiing in Huesca.
Two other mountaineers were unharmed.

The authorities are urging all skiers & snowboarders to exercise caution in the mountains and to obey all local rules.
