Serbia adopted the Strategy for the Management of Mineral and Other Geological Resources until 2040, with projections until 2050.

The document sets a long-term framework for the management of mineral resources and strengthening the role of the state in planning, supervising and improving the mining and geological sector. It introduces an integrated framework for the responsible and sustainable management of natural resources, systematically integrating international standards and best practices.

According to Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović, the Strategy aims to ensure a secure mineral supply to the domestic economy and energy system, and special emphasis was placed on critical and strategic mineral raw materials, geothermal energy and the rational use of natural resources, while applying high environmental and safety standards. The implementation of the Strategy should also contribute to improving legal regulations and rehabilitating abandoned mining facilities.
