  1. Abraham was from Ur and became the first Jew before coming to Canaan. And Jesus the founder of Christianity was born in the Herodian kingdom of Judea.

The baha’i faith is considered major? I thought no one really knew about them outside of the arab and muslim world

  3. Tenrikyo is a major religion now? I think this is the second time in my life I heard about its existence

  4. Why is Tenrikyo a “major religion”? I’m sure this is the first time alot of people have even heard about it.

Zoroastrianism probably did not originate in Iran. It likely within the modern borders of Afghanistan around Balkh.

I know this may upset some people, but it is debatable where Christianity started, because it is debatable when Christianity became Christianity. The first generation never stopped considering themselves Jews. By the time they did come to think of themselves as not being Jews, they had spread throughout the Roman Empire. So I’m not saying Christianity didn’t start in Israel, I’m just saying it’s a little hard to say where it started and when.

Four religions came out of India, and all four lived in peace and harmony with each other till date.

  8. Totally meaningless to talk about origins being in countries/states that didn’t come around until in some cases thousands of years later

  9. Maybe there some wrong info here , for example Judaism started in Egypt not in Israel, as the prophet who really spread Judaism is Moses who born in Egypt

This map has a weird bias. It ignores most of the world and has an ambiguous definition of “major”.

  11. Gotta say, not a fan of historic maps that rely on modern borders. Would make more sense if they used the approximate location of origin regardless of country.

  12. Is confucianism a religion? I’m pretty sure it’s just a set of ideas and philosophy rather than a religion.

It annoys me that most of the popular ones are boring. If you are going to follow a religion, at least have the guy throwing cool lightning bolts or something.

If both Israel and Palestine are listed for Christianity then both Nepal and India should be listed for Buddhism.
