  1. This would be a good time for a rich left leaning person to agree to take them on until the darkness passes.

  2. If this is just about staffing, why not just close it and leave it intact to maybe reopen later?

I imagine someone said something along the lines of “in the future humans wont need any books or access to information because grok ai will know everything for you”

  3. This is burning books without an actual bonfire. How sad, and this is our money. All these things were done with our taxes.
Why can’t they offer the holdings to other libraries ?

  4. Can I at least take them?

Things like this need to be preserved.

It’s like how NSAS forgot how to make the Saturn V. That was inexcusable. We can not have any more memory lapses in technology like that.

  5. They did this several years ago to the library at the US Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California. Tons of priceless old books on paleontology, geology and earth science. They just pulped them. I was there as the crews from the disposal company were stripping the shelves. I even offered the guys cash to just let me save some particularly rare books. Nope. All turned to pulp and lost forever.

I understand that historical records will be archived. If this is about books, let’s reach out and see if they’re able to donate the books. This seems easy to salvage.
