In a message marking the start of the New Year, Opposition and Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg said that the future facing our country is one that must be built together and should rest on three pillars – respect, courage and, above all, hope.
He said that Malta stands at a crossroads and that we are living through a time of opportunity, but also a time of major challenges. Many people are feeling this reality every day – whether through the rising cost of living, the challenge of affordable housing, or wages that are no longer sufficient to keep up with the realities of life.
Borg said that our country has a resilient people, institutions that must continue to be strengthened, entrepreneurs who are building new industries, educators shaping tomorrow’s generations, healthcare workers who are everyday heroes, and communities rooted in solidarity, values and a shared belief that Malta can do better.
“We need a politics that seizes the moment. This is the kind of politics I want to work for – politics that talks less and listens more. In the year ahead, I will focus even more on what truly makes a difference,” the PN Leader said. He explained that over the coming year the PN will put forward more proposals so that the difficulties faced by many people are given the importance they truly deserve, while pushing for further reforms that lead to better wages through higher productivity that reflects the dignity of workers.
Borg stressed that we must bring about change, but also change the way politics is done by engaging with young people for whom politics today is no longer as appealing, by valuing our elderly who built this country, and by ensuring that everyone is treated equally while working to reduce social class divisions as much as possible.
“Yes, I believe in progress. Progress rooted in values. I believe in tradition. I believe in a Malta that is proud of its past and a Malta that is not afraid of the future. I will continue to work constructively, criticising when necessary while always putting forward proposals. I will remain steadfast and, above all, I will continue to offer my help whenever it is needed,” Alex Borg said, as he pledged to be there for those who have lost faith in politics – and, as a result, have lost hope for our Malta and Gozo.
“I am with you. This is our moment. May the New Year bring us closer to a Malta that is fairer, stronger and more compassionate.”
Borg conveyed his New Year wishes to the Maltese and Gozitan people for an excellent year ahead.
