Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry has accused Moscow of attempting to sabotage recent understandings reached between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Mar-a-Lago by spreading false claims about an alleged Ukrainian drone attack on a Russian presidential residence in a statement published on X on December 30.

Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry said Russia’s allegations about a supposed strike on a residence linked to Russian leader Vladimir Putin bear the hallmarks of a “false-flag” operation aimed at justifying potential new attacks against Ukraine.

Lithuanian officials said the claims follow a familiar Kremlin pattern.

“The Kremlin’s latest false-flag operation to justify possible strikes against Ukraine is nothing new. We remember the failed ‘drone attack’ on the Kremlin on May 3, 2023,” the ministry wrote.

“Putin is not only planning a massive attack on Kyiv, but is also seeking to derail the achievements agreed yesterday at Mar-a-Lago,” the Lithuanian MFA added.

The statement directly challenges remarks made earlier by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who alleged that Ukraine attempted to strike Putin’s residence overnight and suggested Moscow would “reconsider” its negotiating stance as a result.

Lithuanian officials rejected those assertions outright, framing them as deliberate disinformation designed to disrupt diplomatic momentum following the Trump–Zelenskyy talks and to create pretexts for further escalation.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha denied Russian accusations of a Ukrainian drone strike on Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s residence in Valdai, calling the claims baseless and unsupported by evidence.
