Most members surveyed by the Portuguese Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism (APHORT) indicate occupancy rates exceeding 90% in hotels for New Year’s Eve, with half already completely sold out — some with offers reaching 2,000 euros per night, according to Jornal de Notícias.

The United Kingdom, the USA, and Spain lead the list of those choosing Portugal to celebrate the New Year.

The Portuguese Hotel Association (AHP) confirms an average reservation rate nationwide of 55%, although with variations in different regions. “Expectations for this year are globally positive, especially in destinations like Madeira, which has reservation rates of around 79%, and Greater Lisbon, with 58%,” notes AHP Vice-President Cristina Siza Vieira.

In Sintra, for example, there are still suites available at the Penha Longa Resort, where prices reach €1,611. The Six Senses Douro Valley, in Lamego, is also not yet sold out, with prices ranging from €2,040 to €3,990. But at the Vidago Palace, in Chaves, there are no more rooms available. The lowest prices, in that case, were around €1,990 for two people.
