Police are appealing for information after a person was found dead on Kaipara Coast Highway in Makarau, Auckland this morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ryan Bunting said police were called to an incident at about 5.20am where the person was located deceased on the road.
Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing, however police believe it is likely the person was struck by a vehicle.
Bunting said it would like to hear from anyone who was travelling in the area between midnight and 5.30am who had seen a pedestrian walking on Kaipara Coast Highway or has dashcam footage of the area during this time.
“We are also urging any residents in the Makarau area with road-facing CCTV cameras to please get in touch so that we may review this footage.”
Those with information or footage are asked to contact police through 105, either over the phone or online.
Bunting said the road is expected to remain closed for the next three hours while a scene examination takes place with the Serious Crash Unit.
Diversions remain in place at the West Coast Road intersection and the Makarau Road intersection, and people are asked to avoid the area.
