In 2025, border guards recorded about 1,400 attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus, with some of them detained on the spot.
According to State Border Guard Service spokesman Andriy Demchenko, such data were disclosed during one of the television broadcasts.
“The largest number of border-crossing attempts remains at the border with European Union countries, and there are also attempts to illegally cross the border along the border with Belarus. And we detain these violators. In 2025, about 1,400 people were detained who tried to illegally cross the border in this direction”

Demchenko stressed that in the recent period the number of such incidents has decreased compared with the summer period of the year.
It is also known that over the year law enforcement uncovered more than 420 criminal groups involved in smuggling people across the border.
According to the State Border Guard Service, the largest number of attempts to illegally cross Ukraine’s state border are currently recorded at the border with Moldova and Romania.

Reviewing the year’s trends shows that the main flows still head toward EU countries, but the overall decline in activity signals strengthened border protection and operational measures across various sections of the border.
