Mayor Mamdani’s 1st EO nullifies every executive order issued by Eric Adams after he struck his corrupt bargain with Trump to secure dismissal of the indictment against him.

It’s a good lesson why governing by fiat and EO can easily be wiped away on Day 1 by the next admin. To impart lasting change passing bills in congress is necessary.

Just to be pedantic, I feel like the choice to use “multiple” instead of “two” makes a difference in how the reader interprets the headline

The Mamdani EOs are a solid first step on a holiday where the halls of government are closed. If Mamdani is truly opposed to Adams’ misuse of the Executive Order, he should pursue an end to their use with the City Council and state legislature. Everything that government does, outside of urgently addressing an immediate and dangerous situation, must be based on well debated legislation. Where an actual emergency exists and an EO is warranted, there must be a short life imposed.

  4. Eric Adams just announced a 2 million dollar emergency fund to support trans/nonbinary New Yorkers.

Does that first executive order stop that fund? I’m not sure if Adams’ announcement was an executive order or not.

  5. Wow. And Mayor Mamdani didn’t try to overturn any constitutional precedents or nothing in the TWO Executive Orders he signed. Two. Only 2. Donald Trump has signed 225 since January 20, 2025. I’ll bet that Mayor Mamdani didn’t need a staff member to read it to him to remind him what he was signing before he signed the 2 executive orders.

I have high hopes for him, but I am going to withhold judgement until he actually takes on the NYPD. Keeping them placated for the time being might be the right move strategically, but people need to hold him to reforming the organization sooner rather than later.

  7. > revoke all prior executive orders issued before Sept. 26, 2024, while reissuing prior executive orders Mamdani’s administration feels are “central to delivering continued service, excellence, and value-driven leadership.”

This is factually incorrect. A failure at reading comprehension.

The executive order keeps all EOs before Sept. 26. It revokes all EOs after Sept. 26.

None of them were unconstitutional power grabs? Pft! Does this guy even executive? /s

Is the second executive order something every mayor of NYC has done? Seems like appointing people is a normal function of a mayor

  10. My favorite is “a number of times”, makes people think it could be a brazillion times when zero is actually a number.

Everyone on earth has done everything possible a number of times.

  11. Out-of-My-League-627 on

does anyone care about what the executive orders are, or do you just care how many.

  12. realfakejames on

    Headline written by a MAGA

He wrote two executive orders, one to erase all of Eric Adams previous executive orders and one to appoint deputy mayors, both are standard practice for a new mayor

But saying “multiple” frames it like he’s Trump and first day in office is going crazy making radical changes and abusing his power

    >A second executive order establishes five deputy mayors and who Mamdani has appointed to these roles:

    >….

Leila Bozorg as Deputy Mayor of Housing and Planning

Housing is an important issue for me. Should be for anyone, regardless of whether or not you live in New York.

A home, of whatever variety relative to one’s need, isn’t just a place to limit exposure from being chronically outdoors, it’s also a place to store and prepare food, to be hygienic, to have a secure source of water…. I’ve been homeless, it is a stress that is unrivaled & unrelenting.

Which is why, while I don’t live in NYC, my eyes water with someone like Mamadani in office. As an older activist who became *more left* as they aged (sorry Elder Boomers in my life, I actually did not live up to the ostensible “rule” of “*when you get older, you get more conservative*”), it finally gives me some true, genuine hope.

And she comes prepared, she’s got the *experience receipts*:

    >Leila brings 15 years of housing experience to her new role as Deputy Mayor for Housing and Planning. A key architect of City of Yes, Leila helped unlock over 130,000 potential new homes to help New Yorkers afford to live in the city they love.

“The first executive order signed is said to revoke all prior executive orders issued before Sept. 26, 2024, while reissuing prior executive orders Mamdani’s administration feels are “central to delivering continued service, excellence, and value-driven leadership.””

This is just wrong. They included the order. The order says any order issued before Sept 26, 2024 and in effect by the time Mamdani took office, are still valid orders unless otherwise stated. Only the orders from after the 26th are voided.

  16. Multiple executive orders’ doing a lot of heavy lifting for a headline about two signatures.

  17. I love this. After Trump and Project 2025 doing this last year, it needs to be standard operation for all Democratic administrations to have a fully formed plan ready to hit the ground running day 1. Act with speed.

  18. Here’s everything rescinded. I DID NOT WRITE THESE, EXCEPT FOR MY NOTES IN ALL CAPS:

     * EO 45 (September 26, 2024): Mayoral Delegation of Authority
       * Intent: Signed on the day his federal indictment was unsealed, this order codified the line of succession. It delegated mayoral powers to the First Deputy Mayor and established the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services as the next in line should the First Deputy be unavailable.

     * EO 46 (October 15, 2024): Suspension of Solitary Confinement Restrictions
       * Intent: Suspended the implementation of Local Law 42 (which banned most forms of solitary confinement). Adams argued that the law’s restrictions on “punitive segregation” made jails like Rikers Island too dangerous for both staff and detainees. (NOTE: ERIC ADAMS IS A POS, AND RIKERS HOUSES MANY WHO HAVE NEVER BEEN CONVICTED OF ANYTHING. See- KALIEF BROWDER. Held at Rikers for 3 years, WITHOUT TRIAL, for allegedly stealing a backpack. Kept in solitary for SEVEN HUNDRED DAYS. Committed suicide after release. Years later, NYC settled a civil lawsuit with the family for $3.3 million.)

     * EO 47 (December 2024): Capital Projects & Nonprofit Payment Dashboard
       * Intent: Mandated that city agencies use a new digital dashboard to track payments to nonprofit partners. The goal was to end the “delayed payment” crisis where nonprofits were often waiting over a year for city reimbursement.

     * EO 48 (January 13, 2025): Deputy Mayor Reorganization
       * Intent: Re-shuffled the portfolios of several Deputy Mayors following high-profile resignations late in 2024. This was a “continuity of government” order to ensure no agency was left without a direct report at City Hall.

     * EO 49 (February 2025): Continuation of Asylum Seeker Emergency
       * Intent: Renewed the state of emergency for the migrant crisis, allowing the city to keep using emergency procurement for shelter contracts.

     * EO 50 (March 2025): NYPD Recruitment & Retention Task Force
       * Intent: Created a task force to study why officers were leaving the force and to streamline the background check process for new recruits. (NOTE: THESE ARE EASILY ANSWERED QUESTIONS, BUT ADAMS WILL ALWAYS BE A COP, AND NEEDED EXCUSES TO CONTINUE FUNNELING MONEY TO THE NYPD.)

     * EO 51 (April 20, 2025): Special Prosecutor for City Hall Incidents
       * Intent: Assigned an independent investigator to look into specific traffic and safety incidents involving city-affiliated vehicles to avoid internal conflicts of interest.

     * EO 52 (June 8, 2025): IHRA Definition of Antisemitism
       * Intent: Formally adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism for use by all city agencies in training and bias investigations. (NOTE: CONFLATED STATEMENTS AGAINST THE STATE OF ISRAEL WITH ANTISEMITISM. WAIT TILL YOU SEE E0 60 AND 61…)

     * EO 53 – 59 (July – November 2025): Routine Emergency Renewals
       * Intent: These covered the ongoing monthly renewals of the state of emergency regarding jails (specifically Rikers Island staffing) and the asylum seeker housing crisis. (NOTE: RIKERS WAS SUPPOSED TO CLOSE BY 2027, BUT THANKS IN PART TO ADAMS, IT IS NOW UNLIKELY TO CLOSE BEFORE 2032)

     * EO 60 (December 3, 2025): Anti-BDS & Discriminatory Divestment
       * Intent: Prohibited city agency heads and pension trustees from making investment or contracting decisions based on the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel. (NOTE: FOH)

     * EO 61 (December 3, 2025): House of Worship Buffer Zones
       * Intent: Directed the NYPD to evaluate creating “protest-free zones” near the entrances of religious buildings to protect congregants from harassment. (NOTE: THIS WAS A RESPONSE TO THE PROTESTS OUTSIDE OF NYC SYNAGOGUES WHERE PALESTINIANS’ WEST BANK HOMES WERE BEING AUCTIONED ILLEGALLY)

He could sign a thousand for all I care. But one that undoes the prior asshat is working hard.

  20. I can’t wait until Trump tries picking his first fight with him and calling him names. I don’t think this guy will just sit back and take it.

  21. AceofKnaves44 on

Let me make sure I understand this: Zohran does this on his first day? Bad.

Trump does this on his first day? Good.

I propose that all media companies responsible for all journalism be forced to become privately traded non profit corporations.

  23. So he assigned people and got rid of old executive orders he didn’t agree with.

Not only is his 2 EOs called “multiple” but they’re nothing.

Just garbage headline writing meant to cause outrage over nothing

    Save you all some clicks:

“The first executive order signed is said to revoke all prior executive orders issued before Sept. 26, 2024, while reissuing prior executive orders Mamdani’s administration feels are “central to delivering continued service, excellence, and value-driven leadership.”

A second executive order establishes five deputy mayors and who Mamdani has appointed to these roles:
Dean Fuleihan as First Deputy Mayor

Leila Bozorg as Deputy Mayor of Housing and Planning
Julia Su as Deputy Mayor of Economic Justice
Julia Kerson as Deputy Mayor of Operations
Helen Arteaga as Deputy Mayor of Health and Human Services”

  25. Okay so the article says the following:

    >The first executive order signed is said to **revoke all prior executive orders issued before Sept. 26, 2024**, while reissuing prior executive orders Mamdani’s administration feels are “central to delivering continued service, excellence, and value-driven leadership.”

And yet, the actual order reads:

    >All Executive Orders issued prior to September 26, 2024, and in effect on December 31, 2025, are hereby **continued unless specifically revoked**, revised, or superseded by a subsequently issued Executive Order. All Executive Orders issued *on or after* September 26, 2024, and in effect on December 31, 2025, are hereby revoked.

The article gets the order one hundred percent backwards. News12 here is stating that everything from the beginning of EOs in NYC to late September 2024 are null and void, when in reality it’s only those of the past fifteen months.

How on earth do you fuck that up?
