I am thinking of getting M77 for snowy weathers but apparently it is a military boot and I am wondering if that would be overkill for hikes as I am not sure how heavy or breathable it will be for light hiking.
Does anyone wear M77 boots from Samelin? Can I also wear them as hiking shoes?

They are excellent for hiking, and they breathe very well – I use them everyday for this exact reason. But you have to take into account that they are not your standard high-tech-membrane hiking gear – just pure leather. So you need to weatherproof them with something like this, for example: https://orto.ee/toode/saapamaare-merelovi-50g/ .
And they need a good couple of weeks of everyday use before the hike, because they rub like hell when brand new.

They might not be as comfortable or high-tech as modern materials, but they will sure last a lifetime and you can later give them to your children. 😄

Day-trips, including mountain hiking and ferrata.
Overall, felt pretty comfortable.
2 problems, that are probably not relevant outside mountain hiking:
* Boots felt a bit slippery on some more steep and worn stone surfaces
* Not as good for precice foot placement as approach shoes.
