A Seoul court has issued a fresh detention warrant for former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is already behind bars over allegations he deployed drones to North Korea in an attempt to justify his 2024 martial law action.

The Seoul Central District Court said Friday that it granted the warrant to keep the former president behind bars, as Yoon faces new charges of benefiting the enemy, abusing his power and obstructing others from exercising their rights.

The court accepted the prosecution’s concerns about the potential for destruction of evidence.

This extends Yoon’s detention period, which was set to expire on January 18, by another six months.
