The evangelicals saying Trump was literally a vessel of god should show everyone just how fucking stupid religion is.

That’s part of the reason to transition to fascism, maga prefers christian nationalism as part of it’s flavor.

“Separation of church and state” was a foresight that has been baked into the First Amendment for the longest time. The government was set to where “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.
This means that the government is prevented from favoring religion, and establishing religion, and at the same time keeps religion out of the government’s control. As long as one’s practice of religion does not harm others or go against the public interest, then it’s something the government cannot come down on.
But this means that the government must be neutral and have no religious influence driving it at all. One does not need religion to establish laws and set order – It’s just a common drive that all people will get behind to want said laws and order. A Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist, a Jew, an Agnostic, an Atheist, or the undecided – They all will want a set of laws and order to fall behind. Because at that point, they will want common cause & the fundamentals of life at their hands. Therefore, what should drive our government when it sets laws and order is what will benefit *mankind*. In the end, we are all human beings.
My point is nonreligious Americans are growing because they are seeing what religion has been getting done over the years, particularly the *worst* it has been getting done. And when you remove religion out of the mix, then you can start looking at what commonalities exist between people.
