RTE is set to premiere a compelling new documentary series that takes audiences behind the scenes of one of Ireland’s busiest hospitals.

Filmed over six months, the six-part series provides unprecedented access to Cork University Hospital (CUH), following the daily lives of the thousands of healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to deliver care.

Through the experiences of staff and patients, the series paints a vivid picture of a health service in action.

On an average day, CUH sees around 4,000 staff come to work, caring for approximately 800 inpatients, 800 outpatients, and more than 240 emergency cases.

The documentary captures the highs and lows of life in the hospital, where hearts are broken and hearts are mended, and where lives are both lost and saved.

Viewers will witness extraordinary moments, from emergency teams responding to a cyclist airlifted after a serious road collision to doctors making complex decisions for an expectant mother undergoing cancer treatment.

The series also follows staff in the Emergency Department as they handle everything from sports injuries to traumatic chest injuries and seizures, alongside high-stakes procedures such as emergency stroke interventions and complex surgeries, all while families wait anxiously for updates.

Each episode focuses on staff shifts and patient journeys over the course of a single day, offering an intimate and human perspective on the pressures, challenges, and triumphs experienced daily at CUH.

From life-saving surgeries to critical emergency care, Any Given Day: Cork University Hospital reveals the extraordinary stories unfolding every day inside one of Ireland’s most vital healthcare institutions.
