Bok! I am an American 38M, I have just started dating a Croat, 42F. During our date night last night she gave me a traditional Licitar that her Father brought to her from home. Learning as much as I can about Croatian heritage, I absorbed all information I could find on the cookies. She told me of growing up and making cookie ornaments only to eat them before they were hung on the tree lol. Since I first met her I have been making her Origami crafts. So I had read it is more traditional for the man to give to the woman. I made my own Licitar. It is made of paper not cookie. And needs air blown in to it to make it 3D. Would this pass to a native Croat as a Licitar?

I don’t know much about this tradition, but the thought you put into making her something that’s part of her culture with your own two hands will definitely warm her heart. I felt the love all throughout this post. She’s going to love it, guaranteed!
You can write anything inside the heart. Like her name.
It’s not a real licitar because the word refers to sweet cookie coloured by natural colours and glazed with this really thick sugar paste and to people who make those products in that one. Once baked and decorated, they last for eons. You don’t really eat them at that point. But they are used for decoration.
Google licitarsko srce and you can check out the designs of the hearts, etc. A lot of those have little mirrors glued to them so when you give someone that sort of heart, they’ll see their reflection inside the heart.
Just tell her you were insipired by licitarsko srce to make her an origami one. She’ll (probably) appriciate it. It’s really a cute gift. 🙂
Thank you I will be seeing her in a few hours and giving it to her. I am very excited, I too am confident she will love it
So an update….gave her the origami heart and she loves it!!!
