In recent days, reports have circulated about congestion of freight trucks at the Azerbaijan-Iran state border checkpoints, APA reports.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has appealed to the Azerbaijani side in order to discuss the observed congestion of freight vehicles at the state border checkpoints between Azerbaijan and Iran.
Following the appeal, representatives of the relevant authorities of both countries visited the “Astara” state border checkpoint and analyzed the current situation.
As a result of the investigations, it was found that the congestion is mainly observed on the side of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the delays are related to interruptions in the working schedule on the other side and technical issues in the border crossing processes.
The passage of vehicles at Azerbaijan’s state border checkpoints (Astara, South Astara, Bilasuvar) is being ensured intensively, and no congestion is observed.
The newly commissioned “South Astara” state border checkpoint, however, cannot operate at full capacity because repair and construction work and technical issues on the Iranian side have not been completed.
