  1. Asked if he condemned the US action, as a number of other UK politicians have, he told reporters he wanted to “establish facts” and speak to Trump first so that he could “tell him what to say and what he should think about the situation”.

  2. InformationNew66 on

It was not a strike. It was a special military operation.

When will Starmer learn the proper language?

  3. USA back in their “World Police” phase and Starmer is bricking it.

I wonder why Trump hasn’t taken the same actions against Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru or Bolivia which all have far bigger Narcotics impact than Venezuela ever has.

  4. Deadliftdeadlife on

How could they be? They completed their mission faster than the uk could have even helped.

Took like 3 hours to get their president. Unreal

  5. London_weather_pics on

Good, this conflict is one the UK definitely does not need to get involved in.

What are the chances Trump sides with Argentina over the Falklands? especially if oil is involved

  7. Trump is a disgrace, this attack cannot be justified in any way, FFS Trump pardoned a drug dealer days before

  8. Currently we are doing the calculations that most countries are.
Do we call this out for what it actually is, at the risk of billions in tarrifs and sanctions.

Or do we say whatever daddy warbucks wants to hear so he will leave us alone for a bit longer .

Human nature dictates which one we will depressingly do.

From what i can tell, the Venezuelans are celebrating the capture of Maduro.

i mean they probably don’t realise yet their worlds largest oil reserve is about to be taken by the US.

Why is everyone ripping into Starmer for simply saying the uk wasn’t involved. Jesus… Redditors will never be satisfied with anything.

  11. MediocreWitness726 on

The citizens of the country are happy this happened.

Starmers response is level- the US is an ally albeit trump is trying to ruin that but they still are our closest ally.

It’s crazy people going into the Venezuela sub trying to tell them this is wrong yet they are all celebrating

    Reddit is on melt down

Seeing as the US were flying helicopters unopposed I’m guessing the military and maybe elements of Maduro’s government did a deal, hand him over and they get to stay in power. For the people of Venezuela I’m afraid its going to be a case of say hello to the new boss, same as the old. Except the profits of their oil industry will now be plundered by the US instead of their own corrupt officials.

  13. parts of US govt weren’t even informed either, idk why we would expect other countries to be involved lol..

  14. Fucking tramp

    >Starmer said: “I always say and believe we should uphold international law.

    >”But I think at this stage [in a] fast moving situation, let’s establish the facts and take it from there.

Its a fast moving situation *because* they broke the law

  15. Reassuring that we didn’t do some light breaking of international law…

    Sigh.

Trump and Vance have already said the quite part very loud though.

    Its all about the oil.

  16. No_Reference_9640 on

Lol how long till it comes out that this is bollocks and they knew of the plan 😅

  17. Looking forward to the inevitable nationalist protests we have on our streets for this unrelated foreign conflict

I mean, considering Maduro is a nasty piece of work and a full on authoritarian, I’m not exactly going to feel too bad for the fact that he’s been forced out of power. I just hope that Venezuela are able to stop the ship from sinking now that Maduro isn’t there to cock things up.

If I’m Starmer, this is what I’d say *”We weren’t involved in the strikes, but I’m not going to lose any sleep at night over a dictator being removed from power, hopefully democracy can now come to Venezuela”*

  19. Emotional-Ebb8321 on

To quote the Bard, “Methinks the lady doth protest too strongly.”

Given the unrequited nature of the so-called special relationship, the fact that Starmer felt the need to pointedly state the UK was not involved in a military action that no one would normally expect them to be involved in, is in itself rather peculiar.

The other bad part of Starmer’s response is that he takes no position on whether or not this attack was good or bad, or what consequences it might have for international law. His failure to comment on the law aspect is also peculiar, given his career background in law.

I don’t give two shits if Venezuelans don’t like Nicky Maduro, what the US did was blantantly illegal and they should be called out for it just like with Iraq. At least we didn’t get involved this time, though.

  21. Platform_Dancer on

Is this what fifa awarded him their peace prize for? Illegally invading another country?

  22. Not only an even weaker response than I expected but now I’m wondering if the UK was involved.

  23. I’m far from being a Starmtrooper but I think he handled that well.

It’s important that we’re close to the US because if SHTF it won’t be Germany or France who come over to save our bacon.

In this instance it’s better that the UK distances itself from the craziness the is going on in the US.

  24. Good, we shouldn’t be involved in any capacity. What the hell is happening in the world.

  25. The translation: We don’t agree with what the US is doing and we don’t support it, but we are afraid to criticise the US action, because we are desperate for the trade agreement.

  26. I’m no fan of Starmer but what else is he supposed to say here. He needed to give a holder to the press before phoning up the orange creature. That’s exactly what he did.

  27. BroodLord1962 on

Maybe not, but Starmer has been totally spineless in his failure to condemn this illegal move by the US
