Speaking to the same media outlet, Luís Encarnação said that the aim of the intervention on the riverfront is to restore urban centrality to the region, with the aim of recovering the public space, as well as all the nautical activity and promoting private investment.

The mayor told Barlavento that other works have been carried out in Mexilhoeira da Carregação, such as the redevelopment of Jardim João II. The Ermida de Santo António is also being refurbished to make it more attractive to visitors. The former Solar do Calhau will be the target of private investment, which intends to recover the space for tourism purposes.

Reactivating the marina

Luís Encarnação also revealed that there are plans to reactivate the recreational marina next to the Boca do Rio Resort. The municipality has acquired one of the plots from a bank.

For the time being, a survey of operational needs has been carried out, and a set of specifications is currently being drawn up to enable a public tender to be launched.

Tourist developments

Luís Encarnação also revealed to the same media outlet that the licence for a new hotel, with a capacity for 100 rooms, has already been approved. Thus, the left bank of the River Arade, between Parchal and Mexilhoeira da Carregação, already has tourist projects approved or under analysis.

An encounter with history

The mayor of Lagoa also intends to create the Museum of Archaeological Finds of Lagoa (MUSE) in the former Júdice Manor House.

The mayor guarantees that the current building, which is owned by the municipality, will be adapted to have a storage and reserve area, as well as an area for collecting and working on archaeological artefacts and, finally, a space open to the public.
