The Titan Observatory is a Florida nonprofit with the goal of purchasing this telescope, relocating it, and modernizing t's current analog control system with encoders and drivers. We will then create an online portal where anyone can schedule observing time and automatically receive a data package containing the calibrated data with basic visualizations. Eventually our focus will be to create structured curriculums as we attempt to make radio astronomy approachable for anyone wanting to learn.

If anyone is interested in following the project, chatting about radio astronomy, or has connections to any universities who might be interested in getting involved, join our discord!

Our website has more info as well: https://TitanObservatory.org

I'll be happy to answer any questions in the comments 🙂

  1. Can we use it to send a DNA sequence (quaternary) signal to the nearest system likely to have intelligent species? Asking for about 7 billion others.

How are you getting your funding for the non-profit?

You could probably reach out to a nearby university that has radio astronomy specialists that can help. Also, I’d recommend looking at some of the radio data reduction seminars and workshops that are regularly hosted on NASA or NRAO websites.

Here’s $5. Add some renovation plans and schematics to your site and hit me up for another $100.

  4. A university partner would be of tremendous benefit. The cost of getting this antenna moved and running will be about a million dollars, if my past experience doing this relocation and upgrading work for similar antennas is applicable. The University of Arizona partnered with the satcom company Rincon Research to bring the old BIMA 6m antennas back to life.

  5. “with the goal of purchasing this telescope, **relocating it**, and modernizing”

    vs

“with the goal of purchasing this 10m radio telescope, modernizing it’s control system, and building a user-friendly web portal”

I can’t find any mention of relocating the telescope on the actual Titan Observatory website.

Love it. Small typo on your web site – “modernizing it’s control system”
