I read that Polish people usually look up to Taiwan a lot because of TSMC, Taiwan’s economy, and technology. Many Polish politicians set Taiwan as their role model. Taiwan is very democratic as well as so developed. It couldn’t be a better role model for Poland.
Is this true? I did not expect this because Taiwan is pretty far away from Poland, so we rarely talk about Poland in Taiwan. What’s the expected reaction of Polish people when they meet Taiwanese? I have been to Poland, but rarely had interactions with local people.

Karma farming XDDDDDD
Tbh and I don’t mean to be cold, politicians say their political things but in the general population at least in my social circle we are kind of indifferent about Taiwan, we just don’t have common history and we are far away from each other. I would love to visit Taiwan, you have very beautiful natural landscapes from what I saw in some photos.
Literally never heard of Taiwan being mentioned by politicians ever. And I keep track of politics. I personally like taiwan and would like to see it safe from china
Yes. The story of Taiwan freeing itself from communist rule appeals to Poles. The same case is South Korea.
Yeah, we love Taiwan so much, we don’t even recognize it as a country, because cheap disposable garbage from China is too precious
It’s not about respect or not. There is no modern world without Taiwan.
Eg. Apple and AMD, American big techs, but their production will drop to zero if something happens to Taiwan.
Most people, just like me are ignorant and don’t know a lot about Taiwan other than general stuff
Personally, always like to see “made in Taiwan” than “made in china”
Its respected like most other successful east asia economic powerhouses, and there are no common negative connotations or stereotypes related to it. Most people have no strong feelings about the place, so most polish people will default to friendly neutrality.
Among those people tho actually know anything about the region history , Taiwan is pretty much universally liked, unless you happen to stumble upon on unicorn-like rare genuine PRC fanboy.
It’s not true in the sense Taiwan doesn’t exist much in Poland, and of East Asian countries both Japan and Korea are more prominent.
That said, Taiwan has generally good reputation.
PS. I had Taiwanese exchange student, or rather my sister did, long time ago, and he was pretty surprised Europe isn’t so rich. Someone should’ve told him Poland (at that time) wasn’t exactly the richest place in Europe 😆Â
Similar to Vietnam and or Philippines, cheap hard working labour from the third world country.
I honestly don’t care where you’re from, politicians can talk political things to each other, but if you behave well, you can be from for example Russia, South Africa, Uganda, Taiwan or Mexico, I don’t care
Personally, if I have an option of buying something where security and quality counts for me, I verify that it is Taiwanese company and not Chinese. In last year I also did not want to buy American if I could so I picked new Asus laptop instead of Lenovo and HP, and for home mesh: D-Link over TP-Link or NetGear. Same with the robot vacuum cleaner.
Apart from few TW electronic giants, it shows through AMD and NVidia that Taiwanese can lead companies to great successes.
When visiting TW I think I’ve sensed that while SK and JP cultures are very kind and organised, I feel like Taiwanese have embraced that partially (including cute-fication with ads and logos or formal messages including some cute cartoonish elements) but have also somewhat embraced chaos (maybe impact of South East Asia).
From that perspective I think there are some similarities between our cultures. There are also benefits of much closer ties to increase innovation, automation but also security against China in your case and Russia in ours.
Those who know about Taiwan I’d say respect it not only for TSMC but for standing up for Democracy and being anticommunist. The issue is not many Poles are interested in Taiwan and its history AND might mistake it for part of China. What % think this way not sure, had to explain to my mom a few times that Taiwan isn’t china has its own gov etc. Chinese influence is pretty strong.
We are too busy right now dealing with ACTUAL problems. Jesus Christ
I know that there have been some cooperation between Taiwanese government and the city of Rzeszów, there are some electronic messages on the screens in our buses which say that the Taiwanese government funded some stuff etc.
