The child who was struck in the head by a stray bullet on New Year’s night in the Gazibaba area of North Macedonia has passed away.
Despite attempts and treatment provided at the Neurosurgery Clinic, the outcome was fatal, reports KosovaPress.
The child remained under medical supervision for 24 hours, but as announced by the Ministry of Health, the extent of brain damage did not allow for surgical intervention.
“The child was admitted to the Emergency Center and, due to the severe health condition, was transferred for treatment to the Neurosurgery Clinic, to the intensive care unit. He was intubated, placed on mechanical ventilation, administered antibiotic and anti-edema therapy, and was under continuous 24-hour monitoring. The degree of brain tissue damage did not allow for surgical intervention. Despite the maximum efforts of the medical team, the outcome was tragic,” the Ministry of Health stated.
The incident occurred during the New Year celebrations, when the child, together with his mother, was standing in front of their home watching the spectacle created by fireworks, when he was struck by a stray bullet.
