I have mixed feelings about the USA doing things like this, its good to hear that many Venezuelans are happy that it happened.

I mentioned that to a friend and he said of course lots of Venezuelans are happy but that doesn’t mean it was necessarily right. There would be lots of Canadians cheering if the same thing happened to Carney. That one kind of opened my eyes, sure there are lots of people that hated Maduro but there are always large swaths of the population of every country that hates the current leader.

That being said it sounds like Maduro is awful and this is overall a good thing.

Crowd cheered in Iraq and Libya also when US took their leaders out. Those countries are in worst position than what they were before US gave them freedom.

  3. Fucking duh. Great country with massive oil wealth being ran into a sh!t hole.

Good for them. Power to the people!

  4. What happens next is Columbia sadly. Really wish he took out another dictator whose been a pain in Europe for like the last 10 years..

  5. There is no regime change. The entire Maduro (Chavista) regime remains fully in place.

The US is explicitly not calling for elections.

Rubio announced he’s been working closely with Madura’s VP. Then Rodriquez went on TV to denounce the US actions, presumably to save face.

Trump already decapitated the democratic opposition saying they have no ‘trust’ by the people.

Trump says the US will run the country for now but they only stationed 15,000 troops in the region. So the current regime is meant to remain in power – only now backed by the US military.

Meanwhile, China invested heavily in Venezuela and has legally binding long-term contracts in place for the oil as repayment.

The only change that seems to have happened is Maduro is in US custody and the regime now has the backing of the American military.

I hope I’m wrong but the repression and pillaging of Venezuela is about to get worse.

Reading this comment section makes me think some Redditors are actually actively wishing for Venezuela’s failure rather than its success after this power vacuum.

That’s why you generally shouldn’t topple a government if you don’t have a plan for what comes next.

People in Iraq also cheered when the USA came, that didn’t last long and they’re not cheering today…

Freedom tastes good but it also has a price and they haven’t paid it yet
