The entire idea of Alberta separating isn’t going to happen.

However the idea that First Nations which represent such a small percentage of the population can block a referendum is also ridiculous.

If this was a major decision where the entirety of Alberta wanted to separate and the First Nations were blocking them from doing so there’d be an incredible amount of outrage.

Modern treaties are those passed after 1975.

You can’t understand what it would be like to have immigrants come in and literally Steal Your Land. Take away your tongue, your dance, your way of being, and put you in the worst God forsaken places. Take your children and send them to schools where their hair is cut, their names are changed, their religion and their dances have gone, many of whom may not survive. And then write up treaties, most of which were broken. And then come online and say a group of people that are asserting the rights that were guaranteed under these treaties are somehow not good because they don’t represent what a majority of the new immigrants that came and their descendants want to do. Walk the Red Road and then speak. Until then, sit back and just listen.
