very difficult to predict but my guess is:

Are we really playing at 00:00 in the morning local time against Jordan? That sounds horribly late.

It would have been fun if Austria were in a group with Paraguay (South America’s Austria), Qatar (Middle Eastern Austria) and Canada (North American country most similar to Austria).
If everyone plays to the fullest of their ability, Argentina finishes first and we probably only just edge you out for 2nd.
Realistically, I expect you to edge us out, though, because we do have a tendency for underperformance in recent tournaments.
That said, I think we’re close enough in terms of ability, generally speaking, that slight changes in form or injuries may well be decisive. There’s not much between the teams of our countries, currently.
I’ll still go with an optimistic prediction and say 2-1 to Austria.
But, honestly, nothing between 3-0 to us and 3-0 to you would surprise me right now.
I’m intrigued to watch your match against DR Congo. I have to admit I haven’t followed you a lot, but my impression is that you’ve been on a pretty good & consistent level for quite a while, though AFCON seems to be a bit of a bump & a tougher challenge, but that’s actually the feeling I have with most strong African teams.
Edit: Speaking of AFCON, this could come into play, too. While it is more time and more matches for your team to develop and cultivate strengths as well as motivation if you do well, it’s gonna take a toll on your players, and a long campaign might also lead to more tired players come the WC.
We’ll beat you handily, why? First off, fixtures. Our match is the third, by that time we’ll have demolished Jordan and drawn with Argentinia, meaning we’ll aready be at 4 point and basically through to the ro32. You will likely have 3 points, and you’ll bascially have to at least get a point to survive.
Secondly, as I can read from your comment, you’re very likely to underestimate us, especially if you come off of a successfull AFCON campaign. AFCON is also the third reason why I think we’ll win, your players never got a break and by the Summer they will be conoletely done, also the risk of injury for your players is a lot higher. And finally, we simply have the superiour coach. Ralf Rangnick is miles clear of Petkovic.
Algeria is definitely a contender for the second place (if everything goes as planned Argentina should be first place, but in a World Cup anything can happen)
If you ask Austrians, we will tell you that first to third place is possible for us. In my honest opinion, I am looking forward to a good game and hope that our national team will be in a good form – then anything can happen, same counts for Algeria (:

things never go as plannend during these tournaments. i haven‘t watched algeria play, key question will be if you can play well through austrias press. could go either way.

Argentina is clearly the strongest team in the group and will win it. Jordan is most likely the weakest. I think on a good or average day we can beat Algeria, on a bad day the Algerians will win. Anyway, I think either Austria or Algeria will be one of the best group thirds and continue the tournament. Beeing one of the best group thirds might be even an tactical advantage.
I wouldn’t underestimate Jordan, they made it to the final of the arab cup, to me they’re on an equal level as Algeria. Argentina should top the group, but could be a tight fight for 2nd and 3rd place between the other 3. Also maybe Argentinia slips again like they did at last world cup against Saudi-Arabia, and the team who manages to do that upset has the upper hand.
With my country Austria, everything can happen. In Euros 2016 we were hyped up and called the Dark Horse, and got last place in a rather easy group. In Euros 2024 we topped the “group of death” with France, Netherlands and Poland.
Everyone will be deported. The games will be played in Caracas High Security Camp.
Kurz will be appointed ÖFB-President by Trump and Infantino.
Main problem will be for all the players to come to the locations without being thrown in jail by ICE. 😉

Idk what will really happen, but you friend seem to underestimate us. We finished first of the at the Euros against Fra, Ned, Pol which is by far a bigger task than the group in the US. And for a lot of our players it’s the last and only chance to take part and glance at the WC.
