It’s actually be really illuminating to see which Western countries have regions below 0.9 – a cursory glance at Western Europe, France, Spain and Italy have a few regions between 8.5 and 9.0, whereas the UK and Germany have no regions below 9.0 (and Germany has none below 0.93). The US also, rather interestingly, has a number of states below 0.9.

    Because Greenland and French Guiana aren’t colored, I like the implication that Svalbard itself has over a 0.9 HDI.

    Surprised Malaysia isn’t on the list with KL. Feels about as highly developed as it gets.

    Pretty embarrassing for Monaco, given that all of the other European micro states make it into the Cool Kids’ Club.
