KENTUCKY (WFIE) – Starting Monday, low-income residents in Kentucky can apply for the home energy assistance program, also known as LIHEAP.
The winter crisis program is available in all 120 counties in the commonwealth.
Applications will be accepted on a first come-first served basis, or until funds are gone.
The program assists eligible households facing a home heating emergency, such as loss of heat, low fuel supply or eviction due to unpaid utility bills.
Benefits are paid directly to the company that provides the household’s energy.
Applicants must bring the following documentation when applying:
- Proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Residence card (Green Card) for each household member.
- Proof of all household members’ income from the preceding month.
- The most current electric bill, a statement from your landlord if electric is included in your rent, or a statement from the utility company if you participate in a Pre-Pay Electric Program.
- The account number and name on the account for main heating fuel sources and electric bill.
To apply, contact your local Community Action Agency office or call 800-456-3452. Click here to find the nearest office.
