He was part of and to this day defends the terrorist group M-19 which stormed the Colombian Supreme Court, except he never actually took up arms and was just mostly some small time ideologue, but now he acts as if he was basically a glorious revolutionary of the people.
Meanwhile, his entire entourage is just full of corruption scandals, he has nuked the healthcare system, he’s left the country incredibly indebted and he does nothing but attack the courts, congress and cheat the Constitution at every step of the way.

Most of my family in Peru are dealing with huge numbers of Venezuelan migrants and gangs that have moved into the country due to the crisis caused by Maduro. If this gives the people of Venezuela an opportunity to rebuild then I am in support of it.
Just in the last 24 months my brother in law has been dealing with extortion from venezuelan gangs, threats from drug dealers to take his young daughter, constant gun violence in the streets surrounding their businesses. Search for venezuela lima violence crime on youtube. There is a lot of news about this.
The problem is only getting worse and the Chavez/Maduro regime was the start of these problems.

Americans need to read up on the countries they talk about, the sheer ignorance I see here is unbearable. I’m Colombian, and no, this country has absolutely nothing to do with Vietnam or Iraq. Most of our population is urban and we are very homogenenous in terms of religious affiliation or sect.
There are already drug traffickers operating throughout the country, growing stronger by the day, largely because Petro has handed out a ton of concessions. These groups now occupy 30% more territory than they controlled four years ago. There’s already a power vacuum here.
Also, there wouldn’t be a power vacuum if Petro were to step down, he’s an outsider, and the old political structures are still intact. Most of the military doesn’t support him. I know this because two of my uncles served in the Colombian army.
So no, Trump won’t invade. Petro will have to step down after next year’s elections. The most likely outcome is that the US interferes with our elections (which may not even be necessary, considering how unpopular Petro is right now), and then arrests him later on after formally accusing him of crimes.
That’s it.
