There are a few important dates you should take note of over the next few weeks in New York politics.
The first day of the new legislative session is this Wednesday, Jan. 7.
On the following Tuesday, Jan. 13, Gov. Kathy Hochul will deliver the State of the State address, in which she’ll outline her priorities for the year. Later in the month, the governor will present the budget address with which she’ll detail how she plans to pay for those priorities.
Another issue to keep in mind: 2026 is an election year, not only for the governor, but for all 213 members of the state Legislature. This means every decision by state elected officials should be viewed through a political lens.
On Monday’s Capital Tonight, Jack O’Donnell, managing partner at O’Donnell and Associates, joined Susan Arbetter to discuss some of the important issues that will likely be discussed over the next five months.
