A magnitude 6.2 earthquake, measuring a strong 5 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale, struck Shimane Prefecture at 10:18 a.m. on Tuesday. There was no threat of a tsunami.
The initial quake was followed by a magnitude 5.1 temblor, measuring a lower 5 on the intensity scale, at 10:28 a.m.
