Since the appointment of Klodian Braho as head of the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK), Albania’s opposition has shifted its stance toward the institution.
A more institutional tone toward the new chief was evident again on Monday, following the appearance of Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha to comply with a court-ordered reporting obligation.
Speaking to reporters, Berisha criticized outgoing SPAK chief Altin Dumani but said he holds a positive view of Braho, provided he enforces the law impartially.
“My position toward every employee of the Special Prosecution, the Special Court, the police and the National Bureau of Investigation depends on the stance they take toward the law,” Berisha said. “We are not asking for anything else, absolutely nothing, except the enforcement of the law. The new head — as I have said before — any leader or employee of this institution who applies the law will have and continue to have the full appreciation and support of the Albanian opposition.”
