The Met Office recorded a low of -12.5C in Marham, near Swaffham, making it the coldest place in the UK.

Marham was even colder than Dalwhinnie and Tulloch Bridge in the Scottish Highlands, where temperatures only plunged to -11.2C and -10.7C respectively.

In comparison, in Iceland, Reykjavik is -4C today.

Grenivik is sitting at -6C and Hveravellir is -8C.

Norfolk remains under a yellow weather warning for snow and ice, which will be lifted at 11am.

A fresh weather warning for ice has been issued from midnight until 10am on Wednesday.

More than 30 schools across the county have closed, and attractions including the Blickling Estate has announced it will not open today.

Norfolk County Council sent extra gritters out on Monday night, and motorists are reporting that the main routes are fine, while rural roads are a little more challenging.

The Met Office is predicting highs of just 3C in Norfolk today.

Wednesday will be a little warmer, with highs of 4C, but more snow is possible later this week as clouds clear to the east.
