[Beijing Jiji Press] South Korean President Lee Jae Myung visited Beijing, China on the 4th. This is the first visit by a South Korean president to China in about six years, and he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 5th. Topics are expected to include confirming the momentum for improvement in China-South Korea relations and the North Korea issue. China, which is treating Lee as a state guest with such gracious hospitality , appears to be aiming to drive a wedge into the friendly relations between Japan and South Korea in recent years.

Lee will stay in Beijing from the 4th to the 7th, and then visit Shanghai. On the 4th, he will attend a meeting with Korean residents. From the 5th onwards, he will meet with Xi and other top leaders. In Shanghai, he will attend an event related to venture businesses from both countries, and visit the "Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea Building," which was built during the anti-Japanese independence movement.

  1. “Aims to isolate Japan” is a huge stretch. Lee has been playing nice with Japan and everyone else to focus on domestic issues.

Japan has been doing its best to isolate itself by failing in diplomacy with both China and the US all while taking out any remaining frustrations on the domestic foreign population. Takaichi did her best to piss of South Korea too by reiterating claims over Dokdo, but South Korea did not take the bait and largely ignored it.

Perhaps the author of this should read an old Korean story about a shrimp between two whales.

  3. The problem with sensationalism like this is that it’s very much like the story of the boy that cried wolf: it discredits reporting, including serious reporting and directly plays into the “fake news” bs spouted by you know who.

  4. After inciting the Dokdo issue in Takaichi, I don’t think it would be surprising. If she really had that bit of wisdom, she might try to win over South Korea on her side; However, she did not, so she decided to strengthen Sino Korean relations by reminding Koreans of their identity during World War II.

  5. It is China who aims to isolate Japan. The state visit by Korean president do not come with such aim. The title is false.

Aims to isolate who? Japan has by far the best diplomacy in the region right now. If Korea wants to isolate Japan, they will be the one getting isolated instead.

Japan has elected an extreme right-wing government, and they have chosen to isolate themselves.
