    Library opening hours during the heatwave


    If you're looking to get out of the heat this week, please double check that your library has reverted back to its usual non-holiday hours before you haul the family there. Some of the smaller branches aren't quite back yet!

    Also note that some libraries are actually extending their opening hours this week specifically for the heatwave. If your local library is also doing this please leave a comment so others can see!

    Libraries with extended hours (more in comments):
    Hobsons Bay
    Altona Meadows – Wednesday 9.30am to 8pm
    Altona North – Wednesday 9.30am to 8pm
    Williamstown -Wednesday 9.30am to 8pm

    There will also be fruit and water available.

    Moonee Valley
    Avondale Heights – Wednesday 9am to 8pm, Friday 9am – 8pm
    Niddrie – Wednesday 9am to 8pm
    Sam Merrifield – Friday 8am to 9pm

    City of Yarra
    Richmond Library – Thursday 10am to 10pm, Friday 10am to 10pm
    Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library – Thursday 10am to 10pm, Friday 10am to 10pm

    Their most recent Facebook post (screenshot here) and email to members (screenshot here – thanks u/SizzleSpud!) doesn't mention extended hours for Wednesday, so assume the libraries will still close at their regular time of 8pm.

    And on the other end of the spectrum…

    Libraries that will be closed:
    Warrandyte (extreme fire danger) – closed Wednesday and Friday

      Your Library (Maroondah / Knox / Yarra Ranges)
      Operating to regular hours, following branches are open late on Wed and/or Fri

      Realm (Ringwood, next to Eastland / Town Square, across the road from Ringwood Station / Bus Interchange): 9am to 8pm on Wed & Fri, very nice modern space. Lots of food options nearby, and if you get too bored, the shopping centre has a cinema and an arcade

      Croydon and Lilydale: 9am to 8pm on Wed

      I don’t see any extend hours for Yarra-Plenty libraries, but Eltham Library in particular is really nice place.

      City of Melbourne are operating on reduced hours this week but all branches will be open from 10 til 5 as well as (according to the city of melbourne instagram) handing out keep cool kits. The aircon at narrm ngarrgu next to Queen Vic Market is very good!
