Heavy rainsThey have been sweeping the country since yesterday evening, causing flooding in several cities.

Durres remains the city most affected by bad weather. In the coastal city there are areas where the water level reaches up to 50 cm. The most problematic situation is in Spitallë, Nishtulla and the former Kënetë (New Durrës). The roads remain almost impassable in many neighborhoods of the city and abandoned.

Classes have been suspended in most schools in Durrës due to the situation created by heavy rain and road blockages. According to the Durrës Local Education Office, parents and teachers have been notified to avoid movement until the situation calms down.

Currently, 8 families are being evacuated due to flooding of their homes, 3 of which are from Shijak. They will be accommodated at the Ministry of Interior’s Convalescent Home, where 3 families have been sheltered so far.

A worsening situation also occurs in Durrës-Tirana highway where some vehicles have been turned off and are presenting problems due to the high presence of water in some segments of this important road axis.

District Lezhe continues to be affected by heavy rainfall, with 96 mm of rain falling in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Gjadër Military Meteorological Station. The situation has caused the Drin and Mat river levels to rise, as well as flooding of lands and yards in some areas.

Meanwhile, many rural roads in the three municipalities of the Kukes Region have been damaged as a result of streams overflowing their banks, temporarily isolating some areas.

Heavy rains have also started in Iron during this morning, accompanied by wind storms, but so far there are no reports of flooding or damage caused by the bad weather.

Due to the increase in flows on the Drin River, controlled discharges from the Koman and Vau i Dejës hydropower plants have begun. Currently, an amount of 700 m³/second is being discharged, in addition to production, while the entire process is being monitored and managed by hydropower plant specialists.
