I watched January 6th at work all day in absolute shock and disgust. I work alone in an office with a true believer, hardcore conservative. He was in shock and disgust.
I then spent years watching Democrats try and convince the country why what happened was wrong. I spent years watching my co-worker being pulled further and further over the line. The day of, he was disgusted and embarrassed yet today, it was just a peaceful walk through the building.
Hearings, events, yada yada, all in vain. Nobody cared. Well, the people that matter didn’t care. People watched it with their own eyes and still don’t believe what actually happened.
January 6th was when I accepted that this country is cooked, that people care more about being happy in the minute than anything else, that propaganda won and will continue to win. I just cant believe nobody gives a shit. I can’t believe that Trump not only got away with it, he got rewarded.
I still think about how close things came to disaster there. I still think about that video of the cop goading the crowd to follow him in one direction rather than letting them go the other way down the hall where the politicians were. I still think about what would have happened had the crowd caught a recognizable politician in the hallways. Someone like Nancy Pelosi would have been beaten to death, no question. Crazy to think that something like that can happen and then the guy that instigated it is just back to running the country.
For as long as I live, I will never forgive conservatives for **pretending** J6 never happened and electing trump again, after the fact.
Complete and total lack and honor and integrity. All of them.
It seems pretty clear that social media as well as “news” outlets like Fox News were perhaps the two most influential factors in how successful Trump was in inciting the violence of January 6. They are also clearly implicated in getting him reelected. And of course backing them up is a huge amount of money that comes through broken campaign finance laws as well as billionaires who optimize for self-enrichment and power over all else. This is why Trump is bringing both media and billionaires to bend the knee. I guess I’ll add to that a third factor which is the suppression of truth by stifling free speech, crippling universities, and gutting education funding…for that he (now) has people like Vought, Miller, Bondi, and Noem.
History only marks the tragedies that happen, and tends to ignore the tragedies that could’ve happened – I guess the Capital police that gave their lives aren’t b hi honey I’m just gonna change and then I’ll be ready to go my dad. How’s he doing? OK I wasn’t. I was doing a post ignorant enough for the Republicans to pay attention to
