We’ve been speaking to people about what it’s like in Venezuela since the US operation. Earlier we reported on the experiences of Wilmer* in Caracas and Angela* in Guayana City.

Pedro*, in the north-western coastal city of Maracaibo, has been able to go outside and buy bread, but says already there is a price increase of about 30%.

“It wasn’t normal shopping,” he told the BBC. “Initially people were happy, but
now people are scared of what might happen, and nobody is talking about what
happened.”

Agreeing with what Pedro said, Wilmer and Angela both said
that, because of guards’ presence in many places, people are not discussing what’s going on.

“We smile, you know; that’s all we can do,” says Wilmer.

And Angela says that “people in the supermarket that I went
to were quiet because everyone is scared to talk about what happened, and
guards are outside.”
