  1. Trump is gearing up to take Greenland, it’s not just a bluff

    After that Canada will be surrounded by the USA, we are definitely on the menu

  2. Also, the White House just officially announced they’re considering using the military against Greenland.

  3. I mean, apparently wants to go to war for Greenland, Canada would easily also be on the list….

    There goes any semblance of world order.

    I don’t have any words beyond just being sad.

  4. ThatsItImOverThis on

    We need to start thinking wartime, because it’s going to happen, whether we are ready for it or not. Civil defence force, breaking down interprovincial trade barriers and FFS, someone shut up Danielle Smith already.

  5. Americans… rise up and stop this madman. Do it now before it is too late. You have many different legal means to do so at your disposal. You just need willing GOPers to do it. And then there is plan B.

    Edit: I am a Canadian but I am not appealing to the US because I fear some invasion, lol, that’s not happening. I am appealing to them because the post ww2 order is slipping away and that endangers everyone, not just Canadians. The safe life i was lucky enough to have in Canada is being taken from my son. It is his future I see becoming more dangerous and dark. Enough normalizing the insane things this trump says and does. The security of the world is dwindling because of the erosion or norms. The US laws, constitution, etc., was not made to protect against ‘bad faith’ actors like this president. They assumed the immense power they bestow to the president would be undertaken responsibly without lies and gross abuse of power. Any guards that legally existed were softened after 9-11, and he is exploiting this under the false premise of national security. All of this makes the world a more dangerous place. Heck, I never thought in my lifetime people and media would be throwing around the term ‘world war 3’ but that’s how crazy things are nowadays.

    It is obvious to anyone who’s paying attention. If you are not on the table, you are on the menu. Canada hasn’t been on the table with US for a long time.

    And americans are in on it, don’t delude yourselves into thinking they are not.

  7. Absolutely. Trumps vision is Greenland and North and South America as one nation ruled by a ruthless bald Fascist with an old fat orange narcissistic prick as his sidekick.

  8. Top_Statistician4068 on

    If only this was predictable by his own words, his minions words, their national security strategy, project 2025, and the list goes on.

    If only…

  9. We are on the menu. First is Greenland to break NATO, then is Canada once we’re boxed in.

  10. It has always been on the menu. Our water and our other natural resources and geographic position make it so.

    >We’re not in Kansas anymore. This is a new ballgame and we need to understand the consequences of this

    Nah, it’s a very old ballgame. Roman, Mongol, British, French, Ottoman, Soviet, America. Powerful nations going around taking over and imposing their will is historically the norm. We were just naiive when we thought things had changed.

  12. Klutzy_Act2033 on

    What we can hope for is that Canada is far enough down the list, and his other things go poorly enough to keep them distracted.

    That being said, what can an average out of shape Canadian do to prepare for what is feeling inevitable. I get that we want to be all ‘rah rah resistance’ but I’d also like to have a place to sleep.

  13. Hurry, frantically change the maps from “Canada” over to “North America” in order to trick them into thinking we’ve surrendered and converted willingly.

  14. He doesn’t need to take Canada, but I would bet that any new trade negotiations will most definitely be in their favour .. or else.

  15. The US wants to merge with Canada huh? So they must be increasing trade, free movement across the border, collaborating on diplomatic issues, and fostering a friendly relationship, right? Oh they’re doing the opposite of all that? Huh

  16. Imotionaldemej on

    Trumps action suggest US is finally behaving like it always has. A rogue nation.

    What I am interested in is, when do we call it an abduction and when is UN discussing sanctions on it.

  17. InsidiousFloofs5150 on

    I wouldn’t put it past them but much more likely to continue to threaten and push for expanded US market access for the few industries that don’t already dominate here… Suppress wages and try and turn us into Belarus. America tries to avoid bombing McDonalds and Walmart locations it’s bad for business. Potential for an insurgency on the world’s longest undefended border with people that speak your language is a near certainty.

  18. I wonder when will these outlets realize that perhaps constantly writing about it does not help but reinforces and gives him ideas.

  19. I think we should take Alaska, I think they’re a security risk.
    Let’s see what America thinks about that.

    I commented this before and got downvoted but here goes nothing:

    1. Our government and military would fold and go into hiding almost immediately if not even before with prior warning, most likely to the UK. From there’d they’d be preoccupied lobbying to form an alliance to take back Canada. Our best chance at survival would be to decentralize and fight a guerrilla war*.

    *The difference here though, we forget that people like those in the Vietnam war and Iraq and so on were used to war, and received arms resupply from allies (or at the very least, enemies of the West). We don’t have that luxury. Canada hasn’t faced an existential threat in a long time, and we have 2 oceans between us and any help from the rest of the world (see point #4). At most we’d see a form of “The Troubles”, except against a country and a leader that would probably use that as an excuse to use decimation on the Canadian population;

    2. The majority population would most likely be corralled into specific areas under martial law, especially those in and around our major cities (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary etc..) to maintain a semblance of control. We’d be under strict curfew, communications blockade and strict rationing.

    3. There’d be some form of “work-to-live” rule while America attempts to establish themselves institutionally and try coerce the population into compliance. “Work with us to Make Canada Great Again, and you’ll be back to “normal” in no time”. This is almost certainly a lie;

    4. No one is coming to save us, atleast not directly. Everyone who claims that “well we’re part of NATO so NATO would save us” is fooling themselves. We have 2 entire oceans between us and the rest of the world. Oceans that are easily blockaded by the world’s largest and most powerful Navy. Even if somehow NATO troops managed to land on Canadian soil, it would be an absolute bloodbath, with no clear objective. Kick the Americans out? Then what? Everything goes back to the way it was? It would start WW3, which would make the past two pale in comparison, and all for Canada? It would be up to Canadians to make life such hell for the occupiers that they’d claim “Mission Complete” and pull out, and even then I doubt they’d say “alright you made your point you can have your country back now lol sorry”;

    5. Realistically we’d be under American occupation until something changed in America that would make them want to pull out and give us back our country. Something would need to change on a fundamental level in American politics and society to admit invading their closest ally was wrong. Could be a few years, decades, who knows. We’d have to inflict as much pain on America, soft targets and all, and maybe benefit from covert material and intelligence support from the world.

    Tl;dr: We’d be FUBAR. Absolutely up a creek without a paddle. Canadians would need to go full blown Viet-Cong X Taliban to try and force the Americans to pull out, and even then the political mess on both sides of the border would be catastrophic. The best hope is that Americans would save us from America. And things would never ever ever be the same.

    So what can YOU do? Look at getting your PAL, buy a gun, and practice shooting at your local gun range. Read up on guerrilla tactics throughout history and grab a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook or an equivalent. Have a bug out bag and a plan. In the interim, practice, preparation, and patience. Buy Canadian, voice concerns to your MP and MPPs.

    Globalnews needs to stop with the hysterics. Trump can disrespect Canada all he wants but he isnt going to invade or fly Blackhawks into Ottawa and kidnap Carney from his bedroom. He could, but he wont. His strategy to strongarm Canada is one of attrition and economic strangulation.

    If someone wanted to bet on it i would gladly drop 10k hes not invading Canada. In fact im going to see if they have that bet on polymarket brb

  22. I don’t know about you, but when I started hearing the words Monroe doctrine A chill ran up my spine.

  23. InvincibleMirage on

    Realization is setting in for me that nobody could stop this. Most people can’t be bothered to fight over nations anymore, small countries (populations/economy) can be absorbed by bigger ones if there is no respect of sovereignty. That leaves only places the powerful ones don’t want or can’t take easily.

  24. At this point, Canada needs to decide if it wants to be American or European. We need to pick a bed and hope it doesn’t become a coffin.

  25. Euclidisthebomb on

    I am extremely, extremely skeptical of such remarks. I do think Trump will attempt to exert as much leverage and pressure as he can on Canada, but beyond trade pressure and rhetoric from minions it will not go beyond that.

    Everything Trump is undertaking abroad at this time is at the core based upon:

    * he is in dire need of distractions from the Epstein files
    * he is trying to find a “win” somewhere will swing over enough of the voter base such that the Republicans do not get wiped out in the mid-terms. So he is undertaking actions abroad and where he can domestically to appear as a “strong” leader and floating lots of rhetoric that it is America against the world. The more he threatens allies the more he makes small incremental steps to actually create that reality but I think in the end it will fall far short of what is needed to save him.

    Trump said it himself today: he knows he has carried out many impeachable offenses as have his minions. He is looking for an escape route and the easiest is somehow to shore up the Republican voting base.

    The remarks by Stephen Miller and others are all part of the campaign. They all know the danger they are in. They might go as far as somehow attempting to rig or delay the mid-terms but I don’t see that as a real possibility although there will be heavy, frantic pressures and in some red states they may have some successes.

    If the U.S. takes over Greenland, we need to remove all American military from Canadian soil immediately.

  27. Honestly, theres a not so fine line between “lets go and get this dictator in SA” and “lets invade Canada”. A great many servicemen and women might have an issue with the distinction.

  28. we_are_all_devo on

    Their military could easily take our government centres in a matter of hours, but the average American will quickly learn how little their lives mean to the average Canadian.
